This latest interlude on the Resting Rock is another sailing adventure aboard the boat Second Epic, but this event occurred closer to home – just off the Coast Guard Station at the entrance to Buffalo’s Inner Harbor.
On board that day in May of 2008 were my son, who was six years old at the time, my brother and his son.
About a year after this adventure, I wrote an article about it and submitted it to SAIL Magazine for its “Voice of Experience” section.
SAIL accepted my submission, which ran in the July 2010 edition. A few weeks later, I received a check. I was as excited to get paid for it as I was to see my byline and my work in print.
The printed version included an artist’s illustration of me at the helm of the boat and my son peering over the coachroof. SAIL posted it online in 2017.
